Accelerating the energy transition requires more than good ideas, it demands real-world validation and market adoption. The Energy Lab serves as a dedicated testing ground where startups, scale-ups, industry leaders, and government bodies collaborate to test new energy provisions and accelerate sustainable alternatives to market scale.
Powered by 16 active projects and 25 strategic partners, the lab turns sustainable innovation into scalable solutions. One of these initiatives is the Energy Hub Binckhaven, a project specifically focused on solving grid congestion at a physical location.
A live, shared energy system at the heart of the campus. Five SME partners, Unknown Campus and EBG form the core, connecting on-site solar, hybrid battery storage, bidirectional EV charging and a smart microgrid.
It lets founders test energy generation, storage and smart management at real scale, while relieving pressure on the public grid – turning the campus into a working proof of concept for local energy systems.

Because the future is unknown. The biggest problems, and the biggest opportunities, live just beyond what we already know. Founders don’t wait for certainty; they step into the unknown and build what’s next. That is what we fuel: going beyond known, to fix the future.


Titaan and the neighbouring Caballero Fabriek sit in the Binckhorst - the old industrial heart of The Hague. Their revival is the story of a whole district reinventing itself, from the old economy to the new.




CupolaXS sits inside one of the Netherlands' three panopticon dome prisons - the Koepelgevangenis in Haarlem. A building designed to isolate is now a place to connect: a home for deep-tech and hardware founders.




Unknown's Watertower stands on Rotterdam's historic DWL grounds in De Esch - the oldest surviving water tower in the country, built to bring clean water to a fast-growing city.



Unknown's European Tech Embassy occupies a protected 19th-century townhouse on the Rue du Luxembourg - a landing point for international founders, steps from the European institutions.


A battery that buffers the campus peaks, and a microgrid that decides second by second what runs on stored power and what runs on the grid. Founders test control software against a real load instead of a simulation.
Cars that give power back. The parking layers become a distributed battery for the district, so the campus can shave its own peak instead of asking the grid for a bigger connection.
Generation on every usable roof, matched to demand by software that knows what each building is doing. The measurable question: how far can a district get on its own power before it needs the grid at all.
